Taiwan: Mobile Defense

Taiwan: Mobile Defense

Taiwan is rethinking its defence strategy. In recent weeks former admiral Lee Hsi‑Min has emphasized that the key goal is to develop “cheap, mobile and hard‑to‑destroy” weapon systems to counter a large‑scale Chinese assault.

"Cheap, mobile and hard‑to‑destroy," Lee says, urging a new doctrine that allows Taiwan to not only repel aggression but also increase the enemy’s operational uncertainty.

Lee’s strategic approach focuses on a “smeared” battlefield: many mobile platforms with missiles, drones and electronic warfare systems that move quickly, fire and relocate, creating a network that is difficult to locate and neutralise.

Ultimately Taiwan does not seek direct parity with China but concentrates on resilience and logistical sustainment of prolonged operations, raising costs and slowing any potential invasion.
